The Town of Manteo has hired Jamie Carol McClease Whitley to fill the position of deputy town clerk and assistant to the town manager. Whitley was sworn in at the Manteo Board of Commissioners meeting on September 16.
In the introduction to the board, the board was told Whitley has experience in fields ranging from education to local government, including her most recent tenure as town clerk for the Town of Selma.
She graduated from Manteo High School, earned her bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Wesleyan with majors in political science, criminal justice and sociology. Whitley also has extensive training through UNC-Chapel Hill and its School of Government.
Whitley was administered the oath of office by town clerk Becky Breiholz. Breiholz plans to retire in December.
