The District Attorney has been sent the results of the investigation of a fatal hit and run in Currituck County. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol Division in Kill Devil Hills, the DA will make the determination on charges.
The victim in the hit and run incident, Baltazar Brito-Brito, was struck at around 1:56 a.m. on August 30 in the area of the 600 block of Caratoke Hwy. The victim was struck while on a bike while crossing the roadway by an older model Toyota passenger car with Virginia registration. According to the initial release from the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, after the collision, the vehicle pulled into Moyock Commons and then fled the area northbound toward Virginia on Caratoke Hwy. around two minutes later.
Later, the driver of the suspect vehicle involved in the fatal hit and run crash, identified as a Virginia resident, voluntarily came forward and was reported to be cooperating with the investigation. The vehicle involved was located, according to Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.
Another traffic fatality at or near the scene, involving another car, around the same time was being treated as a separate incident but related investigation. The Highway Patrol did not release details of that incident, but did indicate it was also being reviewed by the District Attorney.
