Nags Head, NC – Danny Martin, 51, of Nags Head died Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Born in Newport News, Va. on December 30, 1968, he was the son of the late Georgie “Ellen” Skyles and late stepfather James Thomas Insley. Danny lived and grew up in Dare County, where he was a well-respected member of the community and loved by everyone.
After graduating from Manteo High School, he began his love for wood crafting while working for Buddy Davis Boatbuilding. He was instrumental in helping bring yacht finishes to custom-built Carolina sportfishing boats. Later, Danny became the owner and operator of D & J Woodcraft in Wanchese, where his attention to detail helped carry on the Carolina sportfishing boat design that you continue to see today.
Danny always had a love for sports and volunteered for many years as a coach for Babe Ruth Softball. From 2002-2018, Danny was also the assistant coach for Manteo Middle School softball, where he left lasting impressions on so many of his players.
Danny never knew a stranger and always greeted you with a smile. He touched many lives in the community with his kindness, generosity and words of wisdom. He had a unique way of making everyone feel very special.
He is survived by significant other Angie Casper; daughter Mandy Martin; twins Jayda and Jordan; stepchildren Nina Burkes and Jeff Cessna; and brother William J. Martin, his wife Margaret and their children Harman, Caroline and Asher. He was also a father figure to Angie’s children Ciera Casper, Shayne Perry and Angie’s grandson Aiden Perry.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 15 at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo.
