Smoke detectors leave occupants of Duck structure fire unharmed

Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, the Duck Fire and Police Departments responded to a reported structure fire at 153 Poteskeet Drive.
According to a release from the Town of Duck, “the fire was contained to the exterior of the home and no other structures were involved.”
Smoke detectors in the home alerted the occupants of the fire and, according to the release, they were able to leave the home unharmed.
An open investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
“Thank you to our mutual aid agencies Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department, Corolla Fire and Rescue, and Dare County EMS for assistance on scene,” read the release.
