On Thursday, July 30, Glenn Love and Pam Love from Charlotte donated the ship’s bell from the Strathairly to the Chicamacomico Historical Association, represented by association board chairman Larry Grubbs.
In 1968, Sadler Love, Glenn’s father, found the bell in a nautical shop in Wilmington and purchased it. For two generations, the bell has been used as a dinner bell and as “a come home, it’s getting dark” bell.
It will now be used as the bell to signal 2 p.m., the start of Thursday’s Breeches Buoy Drill.
