Second COVID-19 related death reported in Dare

In Dare County, the number of positive COVID-19 tests is 347. Active cases are 40.
Of the 347 cases, 197 are residents and 150 are non-residents.
The majority of cases continue to experience mild to moderate symptoms, reports Dare County’s Department of Health and Human Services.
The department was notified July 30 that one of the residents, a person in their late 70s who tested positive for the virus on July 17 and was immediately hospitalized, died at a hospital out of the area from complications associated with COVID-19.
Since the last Dare County update issued Tuesday, July 28, a dozen new positive cases have been added. Of these 12 cases, 10 are residents and two are non-residents.
Among the residents, 10 reportedly contracted the virus from individuals or family members who had tested positive.
Contact tracing has been completed on the 10 of the 12 new cases and direct contacts provided by these individuals have been identified, notified and directed to quarantine for 14 days from the last date of exposure with the positive case. Contact tracers are currently in the process of working with the two other recent positive cases to identify and notify direct contacts.
Concerning Hurricane Isaias, now is the time to call ahead and make sure evacuation plans are still viable in the event that an evacuation order is issued. This is especially important right now because shelter options may be limited due to COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, reports the Dare department.
On Tuesday, July 28, Dare County partnered with Mako Medical Laboratories to host an antibody and diagnostic testing event for COVID19. The results showed:
– 251 diagnostic tests conducted: eight positive, three inconclusive, 0 invalid, 240 negative.
– 194 antibody tests conducted: eight positive, 186 negative.
Hyde County Health Department canceled its mass testing for COVID-19 scheduled for Thursday, July 30 in Ocracoke. Mako Medical Laboratories reported a staffing issue.
A new drive-through testing for COVID-19 on Ocracoke has been scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12 starting at 10 a.m. in the National Park Service boat ramp parking lot. The testing is open to residents 10 years and older of Hyde, Dare, Tyrrell, Beaufort and Washington counties.
In North Carolina, as of Friday, July 31, 2020, lab-confirmed cases numbered 122,148. The state’s hospitals report 1,229 people are hospitalized due to the coronavirus. Sadly, 1,924 deaths have occurred across the state due to the virus.
As of 3 p.m., July 31, Hyde County Health Department reports 35 total cases for Hyde. Of those, 33 have recovered and two are reported to be active positive.
For Tyrrell County, as of July 30, the Martin-Tyrrell-Washington District Health reported 92 lab-confirmed cases with 79 recovered. One death has been recorded in Tyrrell County.
Albemarle Regional Health Services provided case counts as of 11 a.m., July 31, 2020. Current COVID-19 case counts for Currituck County at that time are 70 lab-confirmed cases, 18 active and 52 recovered; Pasquotank County 346 lab-confirmed cases, 42 active, 287 recovered and 17 deaths; and Camden County 56 lab-confirmed cases, 19 active, 35 recovered and two deaths.
