A sixty-one year old man died after being pinned beneath a car. The accident happened Friday, June 19 on private property at a home just outside Manteo on Roanoke Island. A Dare County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson called the event a tragic accident.

According to Dare Sheriff’s Captain Kevin Duprey, when deputies arrived, they found the man pinned under the vehicle in the backyard of a residence on Scuppernong Road. The deputies, along with a neighbor, were able to lift the vehicle enough for the man to be pulled out by EMS. EMS personnel and deputies began CPR, but it was unsuccessful.

The name of the deceased has not been released and no charges were filed in the incident.
