Teen treated for apparent shark bite received off Cape Hatteras National Seashore

A 16-year-old male from Oak Ridge reportedly received a non-life-threatening injury from a shark off Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday, June 18.

According to CHNS, on Thursday evening, Dare County dispatch notified CHNS Rangers that a 16-year-old male was being treated at a medical facility in Nags Head for an apparent shark bite injury sustained in the ocean near Ramp 25. The off-road vehicle ramp is located roughly 2.5 miles south of the village of Salvo.

A Seashore Law Enforcement Ranger drove to the medical facility and interviewed the family of the injured teen. The family reported that the incident occurred approximately 25 feet offshore while the 16-year-old was jumping over waves on a sandbar.

The young male was treated for his injury and released from the medical facility Thursday evening.

No further details were available from CHNS.
