Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Mike Caton

John 5:37-38, And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.

Think for a moment, have you ever heard God’s voice? Have you ever seen his form? Big Daddy Weave sings,
And though my eyes have never seen You
I’ve seen enough to say

Get the latest headlines sent to you

[Chorus]
I know that You are good
I know that You are kind
I know that You are so much more
Than what I leave behind
I know that I am loved
I know that I am safe
‘Cause even in the fire to live is Christ, to die is gain
I know that You are good

No, we have ever seen the Father with our physical eyes, nor heard him with our physical ears. But we still have the opportunities to see and hear God every day. Look at the sunrise, the clouds as they scurry across the sky, look into the face of a newborn, hear them laugh, the chances to “see” God are limitless. And God speaks to us through his word as often as we will let it. God inspired men to record his word in written form. And I cannot help but think God had a hand in preserving and protecting his written word throughout the centuries. I am confident that the Bibles we hold in our hands are faithful and true to the original and are the living word of God.

But we need to let that word dwell in us. We need to read and study, we need to think and meditate, we need to memorize and hide those words deep in our hearts. And we need to allow that word to work, to convict, to prompt, cut out and to heal in our lives. We need to not just know the word, but allow the word to work in us. We need to heed what God’s word tells us, we need to conform to the standards God sets there, we need to live our lives according to the standards God sets. It is simple, really.

But it comes to down to our acceptance of the one he sent. Do we really believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God? This is not just about lip service, it is about commitment. It is about having the kind of faith that takes a stand. It is about basing our lives on the rock solid truth of God. And it is about living a life worthy of that calling.

Father, help me believe like that. In Jesus’ name, amen.
