It probably goes without saying, but this is one big black bear (Ursus americanus). It was recently seen coming out of one of the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge canals.
Black bears are the smallest of North American bear species, but you might not believe it from this example.
Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is one of nine national wildlife refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Complex.
