Dare County Schools meals program growing

As of the end of last week, 1,165 schools in North Carolina distributed 1.2 million meals to students across the state.

The announcement was made at Gov. Roy Cooper’s press conference March 23.

Dare County started is meals program on Tuesday, March 17 at 17 locations. By the end of the week, the system had served 1,754 breakfasts and 2,916 lunches.

A large turnout occurred Monday, March 23, with 579 breakfasts and 1,048 lunches served.

The breakdown by area is:

Manteo Elementary: Breakfast 269, Lunch 439

Cape Hatteras Elementary: Breakfast 98, Lunch 183

First Flight Elementary: Breakfast 212, Lunch 426.
