Charlie Bryan Spruill

Charlie Bryan Spruill, 80, of Powells Point, died March 21, 2020 in Newport News, Va. from complications of an auto accident. Charlie was born in Duck to the late Charlie Spruill and Hannah Scarborough Spruill. He was preceded in death by siblings Minnie Griggs, Etta Bowden and Grady Tate.

Charlie is survived by wife of 61 years, Jeri Garrick Spruill and children Leonard Spruill (Vicki), Emily Coder (Johnny) and Donald Spruill. Charlie was blessed with his grandchildren, Lenny, Stephanie, John, Billy, Carolina, Andy, Dustin and Amanda along with nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister, Norma Perry (Cliff); brother Foster Spruill (Charlotte); and brother-in-law George Garrick.

Charlie spent over 20 years in the Coast Guard. After his military career, he worked as a commercial fisherman and also in construction. Charlie could often be found in East Lake with Tommy Spruill and Earl Perry fishing and hunting.
