Fred Blount Davenport Sr.

Fred Blount Davenport Sr., 90, of Roper, died December 31, 2019 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville surrounded by his loving family.

Born October 12, 1929 in Washington County, he was the son of the late William Blount Davenport and Sophia Forbes Davenport and was preceded in death by sister Elizabeth Davenport, brothers John F. Davenport, Reynold S. Davenport and William B. Davenport Jr. Fred was a retired wood scaling supervisor with 36 years’ service with Weyerhaeuser Corporation and member of Mackeys United Methodist Church.  He was a past master and member of Perseverance Lodge No. 59 AF & AM of Plymouth, member of Mackeys Civic Club and former member of Mackeys Ruritan Club.

Survivors include Maude Grace Davenport of Roper; sons Fred B. Davenport Jr. of Wilmington, Donald A. Davenport of Roper, Jerry E. Davenport and wife Hannah of Roper; daughter-in-law Celia Davenport; grandchildren Carlie Davis, Michael Davenport, Hunter Davenport and Evan Davenport and a great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be held January 5 at 2 p.m. at Mackeys United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Davenport Family Cemetery. Family will receive friends January 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mackeys United Methodist Church and other times at the residence. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Mackeys United Methodist Church, c/o Vonnie Furlough, 211 General Pettigrew Drive, Plymouth, N.C. 27962 or charity of choice.
