Lady Redskins defeat Hatteras in Monday night game

On Monday, Dec. 16, the Manteo Lady Redskins basketball team faced Cape Hatteras in Buxton. MHS grabbed the win and came out with a 51-35 victory.
The Lady ’Canes came out strong in the first quarter, out-scoring Maneto by 14-9. However, the Redskins did not let them hold the lead for long. They answered by ending the second quarter one point behind Hatteras.
In the last half the game, MHS scored 31 overall points, sending them straight to the lead and ending with a win.
Genesis Gregory stole the show with a total 18 points for Manteo. Along with Erika Bailey and Ayanna Selby, these three players scored a combined total of 38 points for their team.
Hatteras had some star players as well, including Emma Delmonte, who scored 18 points, and Sophie Waterfield, who put up 9 points for the Hurricanes.
The next game for Manteo will be played on Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at Gates County High School. Cape Hatteras will also play on Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. on their home court versus Northside-Pinetown.
