Traffic stop results in felony drug arrest

On December 11 at approximately 6:26 a.m., a deputy in the Manteo district conducted a traffic stop for an expired registration in the area of Hwy 64/264 and Fernando Street.
According to the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, prior to the vehicle stopping, the deputy observed something being thrown out of the passenger window. When the deputy checked the area where the object was thrown, he located a bag containing suspected cocaine. The driver of the vehicle, Jerry Lee Shelton, 52, of Manteo, was placed under arrested and taken to the Dare County Detention Center for processing.
Shelton was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $2,500 secured bond.
