For the eighth time, runners will gather in Hatteras village on Thanksgiving morning, November 28 for the Surfin’ Turkey 5K and Puppy Drum Fun Run.
The annual run is sponsored by the Hatteras Island Youth Education Fund, which supports educational opportunities for students at Cape Hatteras Elementary and Cape Hatteras Secondary Schools.
Hatteras village hosts this run as the course winds through the historic fishing village. Turkey gear is encouraged and the entire family is welcome to join in on the fun!
Groups of friends and families are encouraged to sign up and dress up to win the Rafter group bragging honors. As of Nov. 11, eight Rafter teams are registered and have a total of 60 participants.
A rafter is a group of turkeys. The teams are rafters of turkeys.
This is not a timed race; it is a family fun event. Race organizers allow strollers, dogs, runners and walkers for this charity fun run.
The 5K starts at 8 a.m. and the half-mile fun run starts at 9 a.m. at the Hatteras Village Civic Center, 56658 NC Highway 12 in Hatteras.
After Nov. 14, registration is $40 for the 5K and Fun Run on-site registration is $25. Children 10 and under are free. Register at https://www.hatterasyouth.com/surfin-turkey-5k.
