Red drum tournament draws 361 anglers to Hatteras Island

The 11th annual Red Drum Tournament, sponsored by the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association, drew 361 anglers to compete on Hatteras Island’s east facing beaches.
Association president Bill Smith reported that 130 were new anglers and it’s the largest number of anglers registering for the tournament.
The tournament ran from midnight, Thursday, Oct. 24 through Saturday, Oct. 26 at noon.
Anglers registered 60 drum, 29 mullet and 11 bluefish.
Winners received prizes at a Saturday afternoon banquet at Beach Klub in Avon.
2019 Red Drum Tournament winners included:
Longest red drum overall – Moe Barslou, 49¼ inches, $2,000
Second longest red drum overall – Dan Supple, 49 inches, $1,000
Longest ($500) and second longest ($300) red drums each day:
Thursday – Robert Wells, 48.5 inches; Rick Kosa, 48-3/8 inches
Friday – Todd Krantz, 47.5 inches; Gregg Griffin, 47-1/8 inches
Saturday – Travis Kemp, 44 inches; David Holland, 33¾ inches
Most registered red drum overall – Jamie Fajardo, 4, $900.
Longest ($500) and second longest ($300) red drum by senior angler (65 and older) – John Bello, 46¼ inches; Bob Butler, 46 inches.
Longest ($500) and second longest ($300) red drum by lady angler – Michelle Diener, 43¾ inches; Anna Jarvis, 34½ inches.
Longest ($500) and second longest ($300) red drum by youth angler – Abree Young 26-3/8 inches; Logan Futch 19¼ inches
Longest bluefish overall – Keith Workman, 20 inches
Longest sa mullet overall – David Griffin, 18¼ inches
Longest sea mullet by youth angler – Logan Futch, 17¼ inches
Team challenge recognition and bragging rights: Greggofish, 8 fish; 5 Guys and 1 Mullet Mama, 3 fish
