Deadly accident under investigation

The circumstances surrounding a deadly accident are under investigation by the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.
A 70-year-old woman, in the area on vacation from Virginia, died on Saturday, September 14 at around 2:30 p.m. after being struck by a Chicamacomico Banks Fire and Rescue pickup truck.
According to DCSO, the pickup truck was exiting the beach using the access at the end of the road in the area of Corbina Drive in Rodanthe when the incident occurred. Upon arrival, law officers determined the woman had been run over by a Chicamacomico Banks Fire and Rescue pickup truck.
She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Dare County EMS.
DCSO Captain Kevin Duprey said once the investigation has concluded, the findings and autopsy results would be submitted to the district attorney who will determine if charges should be lodged against the driver of the pickup.
According to Chief Mike Daugherty, at this point, Chicamacomico Banks Fire and Rescue is offering no comment pending completion of the investigation.
The name of the victim is being withheld at the request of her family.
