Ocracoke Fig Festival celebrates an island favorite

It’s all things figgy at the Ocracoke Fig Festival.

The festival is sponsored by the Ocracoke Preservation Society with several events scheduled:

Friday at the Ocracoke Museum features “The Savory Side of Figs,” a culinary event with figgy hors d’oeuvres from Ocracoke restaurants, fig infused tea and other goodies. This is a fundraiser. Tickets are $20. Call 252-928-7375 to reserve a ticket.

On Friday night at the Berkley Barn, a Fig Preserves Tasting Contest runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. To taste is $3. At 6 p.m., a free Molasses Creek Concert starts and a traditional Ocracoke Square Dance finishes the evening.

On Saturday, at the Ocracoke Museum, fig cakes start arriving at 10 a.m. and go on display at 3:30 p.m. Judging starts at 4.

All day, events happen at the Ocracoke Preservation Society’s Museum. Vendor booths, tie-dye for kids, live music, storytelling are part of the fun.

On Saturday at the Berkley Barn, enjoy Martin Garrish & Friends starting at 6 p.m. Bake-off results are announced at 7 p.m. At 8, the Ocracoke Rockers start music for dancing for all ages.
