A Manteo police officer spent the night in the hospital after a two car accident Friday night. According to the NC Highway Patrol, the police officer was attempting to make a U-turn to pursue a vehicle heading in the opposite direction when his patrol car collided with another car. The driver and a passenger in that vehicle were unhurt.

The accident reportedly happened around 9 p.m. on the Manteo causeway. Both cars were extensively damaged. Traffic on the causeway was impeded for about an hour. No charges were filed in the incident.

Manteo Police Officer Kevin Goudy, the officer involved, was released from the hospital the day after the accident. He has resumed his duties.
