Help Cape Hatteras Secondary with oyster shells
Published 8:44 am Saturday, March 9, 2019
Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies is in the process of rebuilding its research oyster reef using the oyster rack method, which entails attaching oysters to a rack before placing in Pamlico Sound waters.
Students need the community’s assistance to help make the operation a success.
Used oyster shells are requested to continue the project. Shell collection points are designated bins located at Oden’s Dock, Frisco Rod and Gun, or at the school’s bus parking lot.
Throughout the project, the students are embarking on a wonderful journey to begin learning all about the rack method, oyster spat, conservation and good stewardship for the local island environment and sound.
