A Friday afternoon car crash claimed the life of a local teenager. Nineteen year old Jonathan Walker of Currituck died after the car he was driving strayed across the center lane of Caratoke Hwy. and struck a pickup truck.
According to Highway Patrol Trooper B.K. White, the accident happened just after 5 p.m. on February 8. He said the Nissan driven by Walker was traveling north when it crossed the center line and struck the oncoming pickup truck. The force of the impact sent the vehicles into a spin and the pickup truck overturned several times.
The accident occurred on a stretch of Caratoke (US 158) Hwy. in Currituck just north of Digger’s Dungeon. The driver and a passenger in the pickup truck sustained serious injuries and were transported to a hospital in Elizabeth City. They have since been released and are recovering at home in Virginia.
Trooper White says that the deceased was not wearing a seatbelt. He says alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the accident.
