FARMVILLE (AP) — North Carolina Republican Rep. Walter Jones has undergone surgery for a broken hip suffered at his home.
A statement on his webpage said the 75-year-old Jones underwent surgery on Tuesday at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. His office said he has already begun rehabilitation. No further details were immediately available Wednesday.
In December, The Herald-Sun of Durham reported the 3rd District lawmaker missed the last 27 roll call votes in the U.S. House of Representatives, dating back to late September.
Also in December, Jones was granted a leave of absence for the rest of 2018. His office said he planned to return to Washington on Jan. 3, the first day of the new Congress. However, WITN in Greenville reported Jones took the oath of office at his Farmville home.
