CTE Advanced Studies and Foods 1 students, taught by Evan Ferguson, prepared healthy snacks for East Carteret High School students impacted by Hurricane Florence. Lee Robinson’s General Store donated a case of bananas, which gave the class inspiration to make homemade banana bread and banana pumpkin bread. Ferguson reached out to Conner’s Supermarket who gave a generous donation of another case of bananas and the bread ingredients.
“We have an amazing, generous community,” said Ferguson. “Anytime we have a need, the community finds a way to fulfill it.”
Students spent three days baking, individually wrapping and labeling bread with inspirational quotes – 150 pieces in all. The bread was frozen so it would be ready when ECHS gets back in session. Lynne Foster for coordinated transport of the baked goods.
This is the second hurricane relief effort the class has coordinated. After Hurricane Mathew, students prepared homemade roasted tomato sauce with pasta and distributed it to those in need in Hatteras Village.
