Further evacuations ordered; Dare bridge restrictions begin Wednesday

Officials in Hyde have ordered a mandatory evacuation for all residents countywide. This follows orders Monday to evacuate Ocracoke Island.
Currituck County this morning also ordered a mandatory evacuation for all residents of Carolva and Corolla.
In Dare, restricted access into the county will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. There will be no restrictions on those leaving.
For those needing assistance with evacuation, Dare County will be making one run to transport individuals to a shelter set up for Dare resident at Knightdale High School in in Knightdale.
To reserve a spot on the bus, you MUST call 252-475-5640 or 252-475-5641 before 5 p.m. Tuesday. Buses will depart the Outer Banks (Sarah Owens) Visitors Center located at 1 Visitors Center Circle in Manteo at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12 and from Hatteras Elementary School located at 47500 Middle Ridge Trail in Buxton at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12.
If you are traveling with your pet, you MUST have your pet secured in a kennel and your MUST have documentation of required vaccinations. Dare County will provide return transport from the Knightdale shelter when deemed safe and reentry is allowed. To ensure safety of drivers, there will be no additional transports to the shelter after buses leave both locations on Wednesday morning.
