Robert Orrin White

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Orrin “Bob” White announces his passing on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, at the age of 75 years. Bob was born on March 3, 1943 in Brockton, Massachusetts, and was raised in Randolph, Massachusetts.  The son of Orrin Benjamin White and Olive Rebecca Nickerson White, Bob graduated from Randolph High School in 1960 and from the College of William and Mary in 1964. He earned his Masters in Education Administration from Rutgers University.

Bob worked in secondary school advancement at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire and university advancement at Madison College in Harrisonburg, Virginia and at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.  He served as vice president for university advancement at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, and at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.  After retirement, he started his second career as a real estate broker on the Outer Banks with Britt Real Estate, Sand and Sea Realty and Corolla Real Estate, where he loved sharing his love of the Outer Banks with everyone.

Bob will be fondly remembered for his unfailing optimism, cheerful outlook, great sense of humor, hearty laugh, engaging smile, and wonderful spirit of life. Always ready for a friendly debate, Bob also enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, boating, and reading, and cherished time spent with family and friends.  He loved travelling, especially to St. John, Key West, and to Lovell Lake in New Hampshire where he spent every summer of his childhood.

Bob will be sorely missed by his wife, Linda Shepherd White of Southern Shores, his daughter Sherry Thorp, son-in-law Will, and granddaughter and partner-in-crime Helen Thorp of Kitty Hawk, as well as his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Janet Penn of Lorton, Virginia, and his cousin, Carl Helander II of Sanbornville, New Hampshire, who were all like siblings to him.  Bob also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and countless friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration to remember Bob will be held on Sunday, Aug. 19 from 1-3 p.m. at High Cotton BBQ, 5230 N. Virginia Dare Trail, Kitty Hawk.
