Asa Hamilton Gray III

Asa Hamilton Gray III, 60, of Waves, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.
A native of Waves, Asa was born Sept. 2, 1957, to the late Mary Elizabeth Midgett Gray and Asa Hamilton Gray, Jr.
Asa grew up attending Fair Haven United Methodist Church. The owner and operator of Cedar Hammock Campground in Waves, he was also a lifelong commercial fisherman.
Asa is survived by three daughters, Cassie Gray of Hatteras, Caitlyn Gray of Greenville, and Caroline Gray of Waves; a brother, Rudy Gray (Bette) of Waves; and his former wife and close friend, Susan Gray.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Asa H. Gray IV.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, at Fair Haven United Methodist Church with Rev. Timothy Fitch and Rev. Dr. Susanna Fitch-Slater officiating. A graveside committal will follow in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday evening at the church from 6-8 p.m.
